GAIA Revisited

Before the abacus was invented way before the slide-rule way before the bit-coin con job artists, stone-age men of the Keith Richards clan used observation, keen eyed observation to survive a night out on the town. I mean here is a guy that was supposed to find a ditch and a grave stone a long time ago, but he is still pushing frets and maybe science is just weak on some subjects of interest. But getting back to evolution, everything needed for survival was “up here” to see out there, and the distance from the eye to the brain allowed for quick thinking and therefore that knee-jerk re-action and that “Turd” was on the run! Before books could record, selfie observation was paramount existence and extension of life, so what came first the chicken or the egg? Then again, country first or heel spurs? Observation, it is fundamental everything of common sense. Now even though it appears that man is on the eve of destruction due the election of an erection that appears to be…in reality a Maggot Moron in the disguise an out-of-shape maniac, alas there is hope on another scene’s horizon. During the Lovelock “Bra Burning” Revolution in the 70’s, the GAIA Hypothesis became a readily accepted theory about the health and well-being of our one and only hiding place, this Earth! Emphasizing through this science that the human-race itself cannot affect the overall livable status of the Earth. That the Mother Earth was well versed in dealing with “Climate Change” and that no matter how destructive the human-unkind ways and means to disrupt tranquility, that you don’t mess with Mom! It was accepted on its face value, and many prominent scientists came to be GAIA fanatics and believers, this science based on observation and not backed by scientific experiment. Dr. James Lovelock became an icon guru this thought process of Man vs. Nature, which was known to many as the “Daisyland Theory”, wherein the earth was bound by fundamental rules that would arrest climate change. This followed the premise that the earth was equipped with control feedback mechanisms that would thwart off un-natural behavior, by subtle like evasive maneuvers that either warmed the climate to prevent another ice-age and on the other side of the fence a cooling treaty to call off the heat. With the “Daisyland”, it could perform this transaction through transmutation by prolific growth of flowers of different colors, from white to black through the extremes of the spectrum depending on the severity of the problem. Flowers would sprout in droves towards the heaven, and soon go to work to either absorb the sun’s energy or deflect - like a sun screen! Well well, for the past 20-years or so wherein “Global Warming” ordained “we are all doomed” and stole away Mr. Gaia’s stage thrust, well from that time since we humans have been arguing about what it all means - that once ice over oceans were melting away at an alarming rate. So where are we today this debatable debacle? My selfie observation is that Mother Nature is not waiting patiently in the wings our opinion and has already set into motion a course correction. I am today witnessing the greatest spring growth of yellow flowers from sea to shining sea, and what is rather interesting, today there are also white flowers in the growth patterns, such underlings have been missing the past 5-years. It appears the correction course is ahead of its time. In the spectrum of things, yellow means a tendency for a heated argument, and that upon itself is a fool factor for many scientists following this unprecedented “warming trend”. Yes, Mother Earth is putting the pedal to the metal and causing a rabid warming as that is how it works, it is called anticipatory control. Why this Mobius like disorganization, more heat when we seem to need a cooling trend? It is based on feedback control, the same principles that humans copied over for process control - like for refining oil into gasoline, boiling water for steam to produce electricity, making Kool-Aid. It works like this. We request a desirable “Set-point”, take as an example your house temperature comfort zone. When the mechanism of combined internal and outside interference shows a deviation away from his “comfort”, the control mechanism reacts - in this case to either add cooling or dissipate heat to warm things up. It can only behave accordingly if there is feedback as an input to the control algorithm. Yes, we manipulate things by the same “algorithms” provided by nature. And to provide a proper response, one that is not sluggish or too hot, proper “Tuning Constants” are required. In the process industry, this comes about through trial and error, especially when operating in areas not well defined. Modern technology allows for self-learning modes, but usually such can be moody! Now we try to target a strategy that provides the best for both worlds. Overshoot means too much gain in the equation, and that can cause an undesirable side effect wherein a somewhat stable system can start to resonate and if the natural frequency is reached, it annihilates itself by a self-destruct mechanism - basically out-of-control. Too slow a response, and things can also worsen, as time is of the essence. So sometimes a control system is tuned for this “Anticipatory Control”, wherein added attention is designed into a system to provide an over-exaggeration to quicken things up. OK, say I have a large tank of water that needs to be heated up for coffee. If the heater is slow to react, I may never get a good cup of coffee, especially when the morning Joe crowd shows up. So I learn from my mistakes and realize that at 5-am, I best put the coals to the fire. This overheats things but is in anticipation that the added heat is necessary for the soon to be maddening crowd. Have I lost you? But basically speaking, sometimes the control system is designed to over-react to get things moving faster, and in the opposite direction! Since we humans have contributed to “global warming”, the Mother Earth may be out-of-tune, so it appears the correction course requires this pre-emptive anticipatory heating so that an overshoot occurs which will then allow for a quicker retreat with sooner and greater cooling off. Now this course correction is built in, won’t occur overnight but comes with the added value concern that man doesn’t give a fuck about our destruction and so be it, Mother will take care of it by changing things that compensate for our reluctance to give peace a chance. And testament to a course correction that seems to know what it’s doing, the small bird population has exploded, and the birds are today like before singing a happy tune. When birds are happy, hey they are trying to tell us something. Look, look in the mirror how big the human is and then look out at nature, we are pimples on an ant’s ass in comparison to Mother Earth’s might. Man’s biggest sweat, we don’t appreciate the Mother Earth, when it comes to money making opportunities a priority above all. Do you really think that clean-burning technologies on power plants to automobiles was done out of concern for the environment? It started out like that with a whole lot of upfront resistance from the “Corporate” board rooms. Until they realized they could save money by more efficient processes. That’s what sold them, it had nothing to do with the environment. Spend money to make money! And for that reason alone, unless we change our ways and means and prioritize our well-being over the free-wheeling pilferage upon our wealth, we will be someday but a lost civilization. And it won’t be due the Mother Earth’s revenge, but through our very own collusion bent on destruction of brotherly love. And as we die away due disease of WAR lasting way too long, the Mother Earth will continue to flourish as the birds sing along in harmony. I am not a climate denier, our living standard does have an effect, just look at the odds our nasty ways and means can cause harm this majesty, the Mother Earth is on GAIA control! We have a choice in life. STOP all WAR, else face the fine of an ending chapter in the history books. If we placed as much emphasis on ending these WARs as has been focused on global warming…we seem to have our priorities chasing its tail upon that Mobius, about face means what? Remember, good means bad and bad means good, depending on your location on the strip!
